The Duke and Duchess of Sussex set to Attend Music Festival in Colombia

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have recently announced their plans to attend a music festival during their upcoming trip to Colombia. The couple is expected to visit the Petronio Alvarez Festival in Cali, a celebration of Afro Colombian culture featuring music, food, drink, and a fashion show. Additionally, they will be exploring other social initiatives in the region.

One of the highlights of their visit includes a trip to San Basilio de Palenque, the first free African town in the Americas. This historic town, located in the foothills of the Montes de María, has been recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The community speaks Palenquero, the only Spanish-based Creole language in Latin America.

A Meaningful Visit

The Duke and Duchess have been invited to Colombia by the country’s vice president, Francia Marquez. During their trip, they will also visit Bogota, as well as the Caribbean and Pacific regions of Cartagena and Cali. The royal couple will have the opportunity to engage with leaders, youth, and women who are working towards progress in the country.

The couple’s visit will also include activities related to safeguarding young people online and in physical spaces. These topics are expected to be discussed at the Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children, which Colombia will be hosting in November. The conference aims to create a comprehensive framework for creating safer physical and digital spaces and addressing issues such as cyberbullying and online exploitation.

In addition to their visit to Colombia, Harry and Meghan recently launched The Parent Network, an initiative aimed at providing parents with a safe and free-to-access support network to help children who have been harmed by social media. This initiative reflects their commitment to addressing important social issues and creating a positive impact in the community.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s upcoming visit to Colombia is not only a celebration of Afro-Colombian culture but also an opportunity to engage with local leaders and address important social issues. Their involvement in safeguarding young people online and their launch of The Parent Network initiative demonstrate their commitment to making a positive impact and creating a safer environment for children worldwide. The royal couple’s visit to Colombia is sure to further illuminate the country’s cultural richness and innovative spirit.
